How it works

BEING RIGHT IS EASY.
BEING RIGHT ON PURPOSE
IS NOT.

Anyone can be right occasionally. The question is whether you know, in advance, which of your opinions are the good ones.

THE NUMBER IS THE PRODUCT.

Most arguments end with two people equally certain and no way to tell them apart. Settle It asks for something harder than an opinion: how sure, from 50 to 100. Below 50 is not a weak claim, it is the opposite claim, so that is where the scale stops.

Once a number is attached, being wrong at 95% and being wrong at 60% stop being the same event — and the gap between them is the only thing worth measuring about anybody's judgement.

CALIBRATION, NOT CORRECTNESS.

A well-calibrated person is right about 70% of the time when they say 70%. That is a different skill from being right often, and it is the one this product scores. You can be badly calibrated while winning most arguments, and well calibrated while losing plenty.

The score is a Brier score: lower is better, zero is perfect, and 0.25 is what you get by calling everything a coin flip. Superforecasters land near 0.166. Nothing here rewards you for being right — only for knowing how right you were likely to be.

IT PUBLISHES WHETHER YOU WIN OR NOT.

The receipt goes out on the date you both chose, to both of you, with both statements and both numbers on it. There is no button to bury it and no way to edit it afterwards.

That is the whole mechanism. A prediction you can quietly forget is not a prediction, and every part of this product exists to remove the forgetting.

WHAT IT COSTS.

Settling, joining, Receipts and the daily are free permanently — those are either how people find this or the loop itself. There is one paid plan, for depth on your own ledger and a larger allowance of counter-arguments.

A new account gets the whole ledger for a week without a card, then settles to the free tier by itself.
